Is the city liable for injury, stolen from one of their offices?
I am a fireman and while responding to a fire call one night, our station house was broken to and someone stole my laptop, along with some other personal belongings. The police came out, was an investigation started, but so far no results. When I asked about if the city had insurance to cover stolen property, I was told that they could not help me. My questions are therefore: 1 If the laptop was no property in town, I'm sure an insurance claim would be made. 2nd if the laptop was stolen from my home, home owner's insurance should cover it. 3rd while they are employed, the fire station is considered my home – I eat there, sleep there, work there for 24 hours at a time. Can anyone tell me if the city is responsible somehow?
The city is not, but check your home owner policy. They typically allow for coverage of personal property while temporarily away from home.
